What is Opus

Opus is the University of Saskatchewan’s startup incubator.

We are here to help mobilize innovation on campus by helping innovators transform their ideas into solutions by working together to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the process of developing their innovation and bringing it out into the world.

For USask faulty, students, and staff who:

• are interested in exploring entrepreneurship
• have a business idea
• want to develop business skills to further enhance their research

History

First established in 2022, Opus was created out of Innovation Mobilization and Partnerships, a unit of the Office of the Vice-President Research, as the University moved to an inventor-choice model of intellectual property. USask being a research-intensive university recognized researchers could benefit from entrepreneurial programming designed to help them take their research to the next level by bringing their research to the community and/or through building a business or startup venture.

As Manager of Opus— the University of Saskatchewan’s startup incubator—Jenelyn oversees strategy,
partnerships, programming and operations to hep mobilize USask research into real-world impact. Prior
to joining USask, she was the Director of Entrepreneurship at the Saskatoon Regional Economic
Development Authority (SREDA) and led communications at Bioriginal Food & Science Corp. With 10+
years of expertise in marketing, communications, economic development and is a startup entrepreneur
herself, she is passionate about helping founders achieve their goals to create positive social and
economic impact in the community. Jenelyn is the first Filipino to be appointed to the Saskatoon Board
of Police Commissioners in 2024, and also serves as Co-President of the Filipino-Canadian Association of
Saskatchewan (FILCAS) Inc.
